The Music of Mike Tremblay
Singer/Songwriter Mike Tremblay performs his original songs along with cover
songs by such people as John Prine, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and many others of that style.
His acoustic instrumentation features 6 & 12 String Guitars, Plectrum & Tenor Banjos, Mandolin and Harmonica.
He has performed throughout Michigan's "thumb area" along with performances at festivals thoughout the state.
In addition to his solo performances, he is a member of the eclectic folk group "Thumb Folks" and a member of the new folk trio called "Tremblay-Evans".
He has been writing and playing music for most of his life. He played a lot before getting married, having children and getting a "real" job. During this time, he continued writing and playing at home. As his daughters got older he picked up his guitar and started preparing for playing seriously in public again. In December, 2001 He played in public for the first time in almost 20 years at a coffeehouse in Lexington, Michigan. It was, in fact, his first ever performance "solo" with an acoustic guitar.
He features original songs as much as possible but, does cover songs by other singer/songwriters. Whether playing his own songs or, other peoples songs, the common thread in all of them is they are songs with meaning. For an idea of the songs he does during his solo sets, go to his "songs" page.
In 2001 he joined with Dean Barnett and Tom Schlichting in a group called "Thumb Folks". They play an eclectic blend of acoustic music from originals to 1920's through 1970's. They have since moved on to other groups and get together occasionally to play.
His main focus now is a new folk group with Bob Evans and Joyce Evans called "Tremblay-Evans". They got together in 2006 but, had known each other from jams since 2001. They feature a lot of original songs and songs from the 1960's-1970's. If not playing solo or with the other groups, he can be found jamming with whatever musicians happen to be gathered around. .
